The 90 MW Rantau Dedap geothermal project by PT Supreme Energy with partners Engie and Marubeni in South Sumatra is getting closer to commercial operations with expected COD by the end of 2021.

In a report on the company’s LinkedIn page, PT Supreme Energy has announced that it has initiated the first synchronization of the Rantau Dedap geothermal unit 1 of 49 MW on October 5, 2021.

“Unit 1 was successfully synchronized to the PLN power grid and exported 25% load of STG ~15MW by 31kg/s steam.” (Ralph Hoellmann, Engie)

This is a “huge milestone for the project after a long and challenging journey” reached with commitment, dedication and good teamwork between SERD, the EPC contractor with PT PLN. The Rantau Dedap geothermal project expects to start commercial operation of the two 49 MW by the end of 2021.

EPC contractor SERD started civil construction in early January 2013 and completed ca 42 km of its access road.

In 2015 SERD has completed 6 drilling wells: RD-B1, RD-B2, RD-C1, RD-I1, RD-I2, RD-C2, and in 2016 completed the Feasibility Study confirming 92 MW (gross) proven reserve capacity.

Power Plant Construction has been started since 2019, despite the unfavorable conditions due to Covid-19 pandemic, SERD continued the EPC works and made significant progress in construction and commissioning activities.

SERD is committed to accelerate critical works and targeting COD by the end of 2021. It has been a long and challenging journey for the SERD project and Commercial Operation of the Geothermal Power Station for SERD Phase 1 with capacity of 2×49.2 MW soon becoming reality for a green energy world in Indonesia. The electricity will be dispatched through the PLN Transmission Network 150 KV which has been constructed completely by PT. PLN (Persero) on 31 May 2021. Backfeeding has been conducted on 12 June 2021.

Unit 1 was successfully synchronized to the PLN power grid and exported 25% load of STG ~15MW by 31kg/s steam. Good luck was poured for our FUJI Electric equipment during last week’s Tsuukisiki with Japanese Sake. Thanks to the teams of PLN, FUJI, REKIND and SERD who made this happen, perseverance and hard wo

The project planned with a total development target of 240 MW in different phases with project sponsors Engie (formerly GDF Suez), Marubeni Corp., Tohoku and PT Supreme Energy. Funding comes in part by the Asian Development Bank. The turbine is supplied by Fuji Electric, construction partners were REKIND and SERD.
