PT Supreme Energy Muara Laboh

Supreme Energy Muara Laboh (SEML) is a joint venture between Supreme Energy, INPEX Corporation, and Sumitomo Corporation. The company manages the Liki Pinangawan Muara Laboh Geothermal Working Area (WKP), located in Solok Selatan Regency, West Sumatra Province, Indonesia. The project began with preliminary surveys in 2008.

Following the signing of a Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) with PT PLN (Persero) in 2012, the project progressed to the exploration phase, well testing, and feasibility studies. SEML achieved Financial Close in 2017, supported by a consortium of international financing institutions, and commenced the development and construction phase of the geothermal power plant in the same year. The electricity generated is transmitted through a 150 kV High Voltage Overhead Transmission Line (SUTT) and connected to PLN’s Sumatra grid under a 30-year PPA—demonstrating SEML’s strong contribution to strengthening Indonesia’s national power infrastructure.

Muara Laboh Unit 1 achieved Commercial Operation Date (COD) on 16 December 2019 and currently supplies 86 MW (net) of clean and reliable electricity to the national grid. In addition to supporting national energy security, Unit 1 has delivered tangible benefits to local communities through job creation, support for local businesses, corporate social responsibility (CSR) programs, and environmental protection initiatives.

Building on this success, SEML is currently developing Muara Laboh Unit 2, which reached several key milestones in 2024, including the signing of the PPA amendment, tariff approval, and the execution of the EPC contract. In 2025, the project achieved Financial Close and is progressing toward its targeted Commercial Operation Date (COD) in 2027, with an estimated capacity of 80 MW. Planning for Unit 3, with a projected capacity of 60 MW, is also underway, targeting COD in 2034.

The expansion of Muara Laboh Unit 2 is expected to reduce CO₂ emissions by approximately 938,000 tons per year, while also contributing significantly to regional government revenues through royalty payments and production bonuses.

Furthermore, the development of Unit 2 by SEML is projected to create business opportunities and generate more than 1,000 local jobs during the construction phase. The project is anticipated to stimulate economic growth in Solok Selatan, West Sumatra, while prioritizing responsible management of social, environmental, and biodiversity impacts.

PT Supreme Energy Muara Laboh remains fully committed to delivering long-term value to Indonesia through the sustainable development of geothermal energy.
